Week 13: Use a Pattern You Own But Never Sewn

Part of the busy-ness of the last 3-4 weeks also inclided a husband that travelled for a few days. Getting him out the door provided quite the chaotic monkey wrench when dealing with sick kids, especially when he decided fairly last minute he needed a bag for his travel. Not a simple bag either😂. Handily enough I was able to make the bag fit the sewing theme for the 52 Week Sewing Challenge for week 13 Use a Pattern You Own but Have Never Sewn. So for me that meant sewing up Sew Sweetness’ Amethyst Project Bag with just a few modifications.

I have to give major praise to Zipit Etsy Shop. I went to 3 different shops around town looking for a 42 inch zipper and couldn’t find one. My friend Jacky from Leader Seaming Reusables sent me to them because they have quick shipping. But not only that, they sent a fun little zipper pull and wooden buttons with their package. Check them out below or on my YouTube Channel here.

Aren’t they adorable?

Ok so back to the project at hand. Hubby decided he needed a travel technology bag so I modified the bag just a bit from having a pencil holder to having larger spacing for cords and got rid of the elastic and buckle in the main storage part. I also added pockets on thr front for him to slip is ipod and phone into for easy access. For a test run on a bag I am fairly happy with it.

Now that he is back from his trip Big Daddy had one comment to make about the bag, that he’d like a smaller one for just his tablet, phone and ipod as well and that the pockets in front need a bit of modification. No biggie on the pockets because those werent included in the pattern pieces and I kinda winged that part but he got several compliments on his fun new bag. And I know what to do next time to make a much better bag😊
